The Pirates have announced that they've placed Antonio Bastardo on the paternity list and promoted Bobby LaFromboise to take his place on the active roster.
LaFromboise will seemingly occupy the Pirates' second-lefty role, then. Clearly, this isn't a significant move, and the most likely outcome is that Bastardo will be out for a couple days, and then he'll return and LaFromboise will be optioned back to Indianapolis.
LaFromboise has pitched 14.1 innings so far this year for Indy, striking out 14 batters and walking six while allowing seven runs. He pitched well for the Pirates last September, but his performance so far this year at Indianapolis is probably more representative of his level of talent. The most impressive reliever at Indy so far this year has been Blake Wood, but LaFromboise is both left-handed and on the 40-man roster, so he makes more sense as Bastardo's replacement, particularly since Bastardo shouldn't be gone long.
