Pirates reinstate Antonio Bastardo, option Bobby LaFromboise

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pirates have announced that they've reinstated Antonio Bastardo from the paternity list and optioned Bobby LaFromboise to Indianapolis. Bastardo's child has, it appears, been born, and I'm not sure what joke to even make here.

Anyway, thus ends LaFromboise's stint in Pittsburgh. He did get one scoreless inning in, so his name is guaranteed to be recorded for all eternity on Baseball Reference's 2015 Pirates page. He didn't play an important role on the team (and he probably won't, unless someone gets hurt, although he'll probably be back with the Pirates in September if not before), but that one inning ensures that his name will be recorded in posterity forever.

My impression of Bastardo this season is that he's been a complete gas can, but his peripherals in just seven innings so far this year already hew pretty closely to last year's numbers, with 11.6 K/9 compared to 11.4 last year and 5.1 BB/9 compared to 4.8 last year. Obviously, he needs to work on limiting his walks, but it looks likely that he'll be at least reasonably productive going forward.
