West Virginia Black Bears unveil new caps, uniforms

West Virginia Black Bears

The West Virginia Black Bears (otherwise known as the Pirates' new short-season Morgantown affiliate) have released pictures of the caps and uniforms they'll use for their inaugural season. They're quite good, in my opinion -- they're on a black base, as you'd expect, and the main cap uses a blue bill and gold trim, emphasizing the team's connection to WVU. The alternate features touches of blue but is mostly black and gold, emphasizing the Pirates connection. Even though they're pointing in a couple different directions symbolically, the designs are attractive and coherent.

Here are some shots of the uniforms.

I might have preferred a slightly darker blue on the cap brim, or maybe a little more emphasis on blue in the uniforms, but otherwise, I like these a lot. The black uniform, which is an alternate, is my favorite.

If you happen to be in Morgantown, the caps (although apparently not the jerseys) are available in the team shop at the new Monongalia County Ballpark, which is now open during regular business hours. The Black Bears begin their season June 19.
