Matt Morris Report: Chad Kuhl has a strong outing

-- Indianapolis edged Buffalo, 2-1, beating Jays' prospect Daniel Norris in the process.  Starter Chris Volstad gave up the run on four hits and three walks in six and a third innings.  He struck out four.  Three relievers threw two and two-thirds innings of hitless ball.  Alen Hanson was 2-4 and Gustavo Nunez 2-3.  Hanson committed an error, just his fourth of the year.  In his shortstop days, that was a week's worth.

-- Chad Kuhl (pictured) threw six shutout innings as Altoona beat New Britain, 4-0.  Kuhl was evenly matched with Shane Carle, whom the Pirates traded for Rob Scahill and who allowed only one run in seven innings.  Kuhl gave up three hits and a walk, and fanned seven.  Willy Garcia went 2-3 with one of those four-ball thingies and Jacob Stallings hit his first HR.  Max Moroff was 0-3 and Josh Bell 0-4.

-- Bradenton nearly came back from a five-run deficit, but lost to Daytona, 7-6.  Luis Heredia had a rough first inning, giving up two runs on three hits, a walk and three steals, including a steal of home.  Heredia recovered well enough to throw three scoreless innings after that.  He allowed four hits and three walks overall, with two strikeouts.  He threw 39 of 68 pitches for strikes.  Montana DuRapau made his high A debut, allowing a run on a hit and two walks in two innings.  He struck out two.  The Marauders had only six hits, but took advantage of eight walks.  Harold Ramirez was 2-3 with a walk, Austin Meadows 0-3 with two walks, Barrett Barnes 1-4 with a walk, and JaCoby Jones 1-3 with a walk.  Reese McGuire started the game as the DH, but came out for a pinch hitter in his second AB after grounding out in his first.

-- West Virginia lost to Lakewood by the same 7-6 count, only in eleven innings.  Colten Brewer gave up five runs in six innings on ten hits and two walks.  He struck out three.  Elvis Escobar was 3-6 with two doubles, Jordan Luplow 2-6 with one double and Tyler Filliben 2-5 with a double.  Jerrick Suiter and Kawika Emsley-Pai also had two hits apiece.  Cole Tucker didn't play.
