The Pirates placed Andrew Lambo on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to May 4) due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot and called Steve Lombardozzi up from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Lambo has just one hit in 27 plate appearances this season, while Lombardozzi was hitting .379/.460/.483 for Indianapolis.
This move basically represents a change at the bottom of the roster and likely won't be of much consequence. I still find Lambo an interesting enough prospect based on his underlying contact numbers, and Lombardozzi is unlikely to provide a Josh Harrison-like shot in the arm. But the Pirates are in dire need of any offense, so adding a guy to the roster who is dominating in Triple-A isn't the worst development.
From Charlie: Lombardozzi's previous track record suggests he won't hit much, despite his impressive line at Indianapolis so far. But he's a switch-hitter who plays six positions, so he'll give the Pirates some tactical options for however long he's needed.
