Matt Morris Report: Clayton Richard debuts

-- Indianapolis edged Rochester, 6-5.  Starter Adrian Sampson gave up three runs on eight hits in six innings.  He walked none and struck out four.  Elias Diaz raised his average to .280 by going 3-4 with a double and three RBIs.  Mel Rojas was 3-3 and Gustavo Nunez 2-5.  John Holdzkom came on to pitch the 9th with a three-run lead and barely hung on.  He gave up two runs on two hits and two walks, while striking out one.

-- Altoona lost its fourth straight, 4-2, to a Richmond team that began the series with a record of 3-17.  Angel Sanchez gave up four runs on eight hits in six innings.  He walked two and fanned four.  Stetson Allie had a two-run HR, his third, to provide all the offense.  Max Moroff was 2-4 and Adam Frazier, making his season debut, was 1-5.  Josh Bell appeared only as a pinch-hitter and grounded out.

-- Clayton Richard (pictured) made his first appearance in the Pirates' organization, making the start for Bradenton in a 1-0 loss to Palm Beach.  Richard allowed an unearned run in six innings on four hits and a walk.  He struck out five.  The Marauders had only six hits.  Erich Weiss was 3-4 with a triple, Wyatt Mathisen 2-3 with a triple, and JaCoby Jones 1-4 with a double.  Austin Meadows, Reese McGuire and Barrett Barnes all went 0-4.

-- West Virginia scored two in the bottom of the 9th to beat Kannapolis, 4-3.  Jordan Luplow and Taylor Gushue hit back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning, and the winning run later scored on an error.  Elvis Escobar and Michael Suchy each went 2-3.  Cole Tucker was 0-4.  Starter John Sever gave up an unearned run in four innings on three hits and two walks.  He fanned six.
