Pirates agree to terms with Kevin Newman

According to multiple reports, the Pirates have reached agreement with top draft pick Kevin Newman.  The bonus reportedly will be close to the slot amount of $2.273M.  An official announcement is likely tomorrow, when the team also could announce the signing of supplemental first round pick Ke'Bryan Hayes, who reportedly agreed to terms shortly after the draft.

Newman was a shortstop at the University of Arizona, hitting 370/426/489 in his junior year.  Keith Law ranked him as the second best prospect in the draft, although most other outlets ranked him in the 20s.

The Pirates face an interesting situation in deciding where to assign Newman, although it's very likely he'll head to the West Virginia Black Bears initially.  With Cole Tucker at the full-season West Virginia affiliate, that's not a good option.  And with second-round pick Kevin Kramer apparently drafted as a shortstop, the Pirates are facing a bit of a crunch.  Not that that's a bad thing.

UPDATE:  The Pirates also have reportedly agreed with 22nd round pick, prep RHP Nathan Trevillian, for a $250,000 bonus.
