MLB Pipeline is reporting that the Pirates have signed their 5th round draft pick, University of Virginia lefthander Brandon Waddell, for a slightly under slot amount of $315,000. The signing was delayed by UVA's College World Series run, with Waddell contributing a standout performance in the title game. Waddell probably will report to Morgantown eventually.
PiratesProspects.com is also reporting (subscription required) that the Pirates have signed 36th round pick James Marvel, a RHP from Duke University. Marvel missed part of his sophomore year and all of this year due to Tommy John surgery, so he'll probably start his pro career in rehab.
The team has now signed 33 of its 41 draft picks, as shown below. With the deadline two days away, it's likely that they're done. Many of the remaining picks have announced that they won't be signing.
