Pirates promote JaCoby Jones; 3 Pirates minor leaguers win weekly honors

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

A couple bits of news from the Pirates' minor league system:

  • The Pirates have promoted JaCoby Jones from Bradenton to Altoona. This is a bit strange, since Jones hasn't hit very well this year and the guys who have played in the middle infield at Altoona lately, Adam Frazier and Max Moroff, have. Perhaps this is a prelude to a trade, but probably not; it's so easy to reflexively #HugWatch everything this time of year. Anyway, Jones is playing shortstop for Altoona tonight, with Frazier in center field.
  • The Pirates outrighted Steve Lombardozzi to Indianapolis, so it appears he'll stay with the organization.
  • The Bucs have announced that Harold Ramirez has been named the Florida State League Batter of the Week, J.T. Brubaker has been named the NY-Penn League Pitcher of the Week, and Carlos Munoz has been named the Appalachian League Batter of the Week. Ramirez had three multi-hit games and two homers this week after missing a couple weeks playing in the Pan-Am Games. Brubaker gave up just one hit and no walks over six innings on Saturday and also pitched five shutout innings in his previous start last Monday. And Munoz just went nuts, with four three-hit games last week, including a three-homer game on Saturday and another homer Sunday.
