Cannonballs Coming: WV Power hitters heating up

Indianapolis and Altoona were off.

-- Bradenton couldn't hold an early 2-0 lead and lost to Jupiter, 4-2.  Frank Duncan gave up three runs on six hits in six and two-thirds innings.  He walked none and struck out five.  Reese McGuire was 2-4 with a double and Chris Diaz 2-3.  Austin Meadows was 0-4 and Harold Ramirez 1-3.

-- West Virginia pounded Delmarva, 11-2.  The Power are getting increasingly more offense from the 2014 college draftees.  In this game, Michael Suchy (pictured) went 3-3 with a double and his eighth HR.  Taylor Gushue was 2-4 with a double, his fourth HR and four RBIs.  Pablo Reyes was also 2-4 and Jordan Luplow hit his 34th double.  Kevin Newman made his full season debut, going 1-4 with a walk, and two errors at short.  Yeudy Garcia allowed two runs over five innings on two hits and two walks.  He fanned four.  Edgar Santana, promoted from Morgantown along with Newman, threw two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.

-- Morgantown blew a one-run, 9th-inning lead, then lost to Williamsport, 3-2, in eleven innings.  Seth McGarry gave up one run over four and two-thirds innings on five hits and three walks.  He fanned six.  The Black Bears had only three hits, two by Erik Forgione.

-- The first game of Bristol's doubleheader with Johnson City was suspended in the bottom of the first with the Pirates leading, 4-1.  Henrry Rosario led off the game with his third HR, and Sandy Santos and Nick Buckner each had 1st-inning doubles.  Trey Supak, making his first appearance in a month, was having a tough time when the rains came.  He'd retired only one batter and allowed two doubles and a walk.

-- The GCL Pirates lost the first game of a doubleheader with the Blue Jays, 7-5.  Luis Escobar threw shutout ball for four innings, but came out after loading the bases with nobody out in the 5th.  Richard Mitchell then let all three runners score.  Escobar gave up five hits and three walks in four-plus innings, with two strikeouts.  Ke'Bryan Hayes and Sam Kennelly each went 2-4, and Jhoan Herrera had a double in two at-bats.

The Bucs won the second game, 5-1.  Chris Plitt went five innings, allowing one run on three hits.  He walked none and struck out three.  Adrian Valerio and Garrett Russini each went 2-3.  Hayes was 1-4 and Edison Lantigua had a double in two at-bats.

-- The DSL Pirates got blanked by the Rangers2, 7-0.  Starter Ronny Agustin threw five shutout innings, allowing just one hit.  Raul Hernandez and Eddy Vizcaino each had two hits.
