According to an official press release, the Pirates have hired Joe Block to replace Tim Neverett as play-by-play announcer.  Neverett left to join the Boston Red Sox' broadcast team.  Block has handled radio play-by-play for the Milwaukee Brewers since 2012, working with Bob Uecker.  He'd previously hosted a radio post-game show for the Dodgers and spent nine seasons calling minor league baseball.  He also has experience with televised college football and basketball, and worked at one time for the NBA's New Orleans Hornets.  His wife is a native of the South Hills area.

The Pirates state that Block won out over more than 225 applicants for the position.  He'll join Greg Brown, and color analysts Steve Blass, Bob Walk and John Wehner on the Pirates' broadcast crew.
