The Nationals had reportedly wanted to complete a deal for Andrew McCutchen by yesterday. That didn't happen, but talks continue today, as Stephen J. Nesbitt tweets.
Pirates and Nationals continuing to pursue a trade for Andrew McCutchen, per source. Pirates breaking down video of Nats prospects this a.m.
These same two teams also discussed a potential McCutchen trade this summer, so the Bucs probably feel they have a pretty good handle on the Nats' top prospects and anyone else they might have been pursuing a few months ago. If they're still watching video, my guess is that they're looking at prospects of somewhat secondary importance. That could mean that the two teams are in agreement about the main pieces and that talks are fairly far along. That's just speculation on my part, of course.
In any case, the Nats had reportedly wanted to finish the deal before today's non-tender deadline, which is at 8:00. Non-tender information from various clubs is rolling in now, and my guess is that the two sides will continue talking throughout the day.
