Here's a roundup of the latest Andrew McCutchen rumors to hit Twitter this afternoon. First, from Joel Sherman of the New York Post:
#Nationals have found #Pirates ask for McCutchen too high. More focused on Sale #chisox and other options
— Joel Sherman (@Joelsherman1) December 5, 2016
And, relatedly, from Rob Biertempfel:
#pirates ask of Robles & Giolito was rebuffed by Nats, who also wonder about McCutchen's possible skill decline, leadership

The bit about McCutchen's leadership is strange -- I've never seen questions about that before, and I wonder if there's a backstory there. It could simply be that the Nationals are trying to drive the Pirates' price down. In any case, it's not surprising that the Nats would turn down McCutchen at a price of Lucas Giolito and Victor Robles.
Anyway, it turns out a new, or new-ish, team got involved in talks today.
Sources: #Rangers in frequent contact with #Pirates on McCutchen. Deal possible, but not close.

The Rangers, who are losing Ian Desmond and Carlos Gomez to free agency, are on the hunt for a center fielder. As with the Nationals, though, it sounds like they don't want to pay the Pirates' price.
Rangers finding asking price for McCutchen very high...established starter and prospects

So it sounds like no deal is close. Unless, of course, a "mystery team" sweeps the Pirates off their feet.
There is said to be "mystery team" in McCutchen talks that has not been mentioned publicly yet. Not surprising. Great player
