The Pirates have announced that they've reassigned righties Guido Knudson and Wilfredo Boscan to the minors, leaving 43 players left in big-league camp.
The Bucs claimed Knudson (fun fact: his middle name is Joel) from the Tigers in November, then ended up releasing him and re-signing him to a minor-league deal. He spent most of last season pitching in relief in the high minors, posting a 2.56 ERA while striking out 60 batters and walking 29 in 59.2 innings. He allowed five runs in 6.1 innings of work in Spring Training.
The Pirates promoted Boscan three times last season but never used him in a big-league game. They re-signed him to a minor-league deal last winter after he posted a 3.07 ERA with 86 strikeouts and 45 walks in 126 innings with Indianapolis. He made 23 starts, but might not make so many this year, since the Indianapolis rotation will feature a number of prospects.
