A few notes for Friday:
-P- Andrew McCutchen was scratched from tonight's lineup with what the Pirates describe as a precautionary move related to left quadriceps tightness. He worked out today, so this doesn't seem like any big deal, but of course any McCutchen injury is worth noting.
-P- Scouts are reportedly excited about Cory Luebke's performance for the Pirates so far in Spring Training, Jon Heyman tweets. Luebke has been throwing a 94-MPH fastball with a power breaking ball. Heyman says Luebke has an out clause in his minor-league deal, but doesn't say when that out is. If it's at the end of Spring Training, Luebke might have a better chance of making the team than we'd previously imagined.
-P- Deolis Guerra, who the Angels selected from the Pirates in the Rule 5 Draft over the winter, cleared waivers and became a free agent. Since the Pirates had already outrighted Guerra in October, the Angels didn't have to offer him back to the Bucs. He's reportedly agreed to a new minor-league deal with the Angels. So, long story short, he won't be returning to the Pirates organization, which isn't worth worrying about much but is unfortunate, since Guerra makes excellent minor-league depth.
