A few notes from before this afternoon's game:
-P- The Pirates announced that Jung Ho Kang will begin a rehab assignment with Indianapolis Monday, while Jared Hughes will begin one Tuesday. This is great news -- it looks like the Bucs could get both players back by sometime around the beginning of May. Kang's impact on the Pirates is obvious, but don't overlook Hughes, who's been out with a lat injury -- the Pirates' struggling bullpen can really use him.
-P- Neal Huntington says that Pedro Florimon has accepted his outright assignment to Indianapolis. Florimon provides no offense at all, and it's good that he didn't make the Bucs' Opening Day roster, but he represents good depth for the Bucs, in that he provides quality defense at shortstop.
-P- The Pirates are looking to trade Michael Morse, Huntington says. The Bucs recently designated Morse for assignment. Morse is owed $8 million this season (some of which is being paid by the Dodgers), and Huntington admits upfront the Pirates will likely have to pay a significant portion of Morse's remaining salary to deal him, so don't expect them to get anything that interesting in return.
