Pirates recall Cory Luebke, option A.J. Schugel to Indianapolis

The Pirates have recalled Cory Luebke from his rehab assignment and optioned A.J. Schugel to Indianapolis, Travis Sawchik tweets.

The Bucs placed Luebke on the DL a month ago with hamstring tightness. Shortly thereafter, he began a long rehab stint with Indy and fared very well, striking out 18 batters, walking three and allowing four runs in 12.1 innings. Luebke wasn't nearly as successful with the big club in April, but after dominating with Indianapolis, it's good to see him get another shot. His performance with Indy might represent real improvement for him, given that he's basically returning from three years missed due to injury and he'd had limited time to benefit from the Bucs' coaching. He'll also give the Pirates another lefty relief option.

Schugel has posted a 4.96 ERA in the big leagues this season, albeit with 17 strikeouts and four walks. He wasn't the bullpen's biggest problem, but he wasn't a strength, either. He'll probably be back at some point.
