In addition to placing Francisco Cervelli on the disabled list and acquiring Erik Kratz from the Angels, the Pirates made several other small moves to reset their roster in advance of tonight's game. In need of still more bullpen help, they also recalled Rob Scahill and reinstated Arquimedes Caminero from his rehab assignment. They then optioned Kyle Lobstein (who pitched both the last two days) and Cole Figeuroa to Indianapolis.
Obviously, these moves are mostly just about adding some temporary depth. It might be worth noting, though, that after one bad outing at Indianapolis, Caminero was considerably better in his last two, striking out six batters and walking none in three innings. I saw one of those outings last week in Columbus, and he looked good, throwing strikes and hitting 99 MPH. He clearly isn't ever going to be a control artist, but for the Pirates to get something closer to the 2015 version of Caminero, rather than the guy we saw in the big leagues earlier this year, would provide their bullpen with a nice boost.
