The Pirates have announced that they've reinstated Eric Fryer from the paternity list and optioned Elias Diaz back to Indianapolis. Fryer, whose wife gave birth to twins Abigail and Hayden on Saturday, will rejoin the team as Francisco Cervelli's backup. He's been a pleasant surprise for the Bucs since they claimed him from the Cardinals near the beginning of the month, batting .320/.333/.400 while also faring well in other aspects of the game.
Diaz appeared in just one game with the Bucs, batting 0-for-4 Sunday. He's now had six career big-league plate appearances and is still looking for his first big-league hit. He's missed most of the season so far with an elbow injury, but has batted .341/.417/.439 in a dozen minor-league games so far this season. Since he's already on the 40-man roster, he looks like an obvious September callup, if he isn't back with the team before that.
