Cannonballs coming: Barrett Barnes continues HR streak

The DSL Pirates were rained out.

In case you haven't seen the news, Nick Kingham has been promoted to Altoona (sub. req'd).  With the Curve likely to make the playoffs, he could get two more starts along with a start or two in the post-season.

-- Indianapolis (64-69) lost to Louisville, 9-2.  Steven Brault allowed three runs in the first, then had an easy second inning, but came out having thrown just 34 pitches total.  There's no indication yet why he came out at that point.  He finished with three hits and a walk allowed, with three strikeouts.  Kyle Lobstein got bombed for five runs in two innings of relief.  Jason Rogers hit his sixth HR and Austin Meadows went 0-2 with two walks.

Jose Osuna:  2-4
Elias Diaz:  2-4, 2B
Edgar Santana:  2 IP, 5 H, ER, K

-- Altoona (71-59) beat Erie, 5-3.  Barrett Barnes homered in his third straight game.  He now has eight on the year, seven of them in August.  After posting a .978 OPS in July, Barnes is hitting 354/425/738 in August.  (He has, however, struck out in nearly a third of his ABs.)  Brandon Waddell gave up three runs on four hits in six innings.  He walked two and fanned eight.

Elvis Escobar:  2-3, 2B
Kevin Newman:  1-3, 2B
Eric Wood:  0-4
Jared Lakind:  IP, K, Sv

-- Bradenton (67-61) lost to Jupiter, 3-2.  The Marauders had ten hits, but left ten on base.  Tito Polo was 3-5 and Kevin Kramer 2-4.  Stephen Tarpley gave up two runs on five hits and a walk in six innings.  He struck out six.

Connor Joe:  1-3, BB

-- West Virginia (66-63) lost to Lexington, 6-4.  Dario Agrazal gave up five runs, four earned, in six innings.  Taylor Hearn had some control problems, but got through two scoreless innings.  He gave up a hit and three walks, throwing 23 of 42 pitches for strikes.  Hearn struck out three.  The Power drew 13 walks, but went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and stranded 13.  Mitchell Tolman walked four times, but got picked off with no outs in the ninth and the Power trailing by four.  They went on to score two runs, but the rally fell short.

Casey Hughston:  1-2, 2B, 3 BB
Carlos Munoz:  1-3, 2B, 2 BB

-- Morgantown (31-34) blew a two-run lead in the ninth, but beat Williamsport, 4-3, on a walkoff, two-out single by Chris Harvey in the tenth.  Starter Stephan Meyer gave up a run in six innings on three hits and a walk, with three strikeouts.  Will Craig was 1-3 with two walks.

Hunter Owen:  2-4, BB
Dylan Prohoroff:  2 IP, H, 2 BB, 3 K

-- Bristol (24-37) couldn't hold an early 5-0 lead and lost to Johnson City, 7-6.  Starter Ike Schlabach gave up four runs, just two earned, on six hits and two walks in five innings.  Relievers John Pomeroy and Nick Hutchings combined to allow five walks in three innings.  Henrry Rosario, Victor Fernandez and Adrian Valerio (pictured) each went 2-4.  Valerio is 9-for-16 in his last four games.

-- The GCL Pirates (20-32) got hammered by the Yankees East, 11-1.  Jacob Taylor had a pretty good start in his fourth outing since returning from Tommy John surgery.  Control has been a big problem so far, but this time he walked only one and didn't hit anybody in four innings.  He gave up two hits and two runs, one of them unearned, while striking out three.  Jeremias Portorreal and Gabriel Brito, both recently promoted from the DSL, each had an extra-base hit.  Portorreal was 1-4 with a triple and Brito 1-3 with a double and a walk.
