The Pirates have announced that they've promoted infielder Pedro Florimon and pitchers Drew Hutchison, Tyler Glasnow and Trevor Williams from Triple-A Indianapolis. To clear 40-man space for Florimon and Williams, they've designated pitchers Kelvin Marte and Curtis Partch for assignment.
Indianapolis' season ended yesterday. Florimon will likely serve primarily as a late-inning defensive replacement. The roles of the other three are perhaps somewhat less clear, but it seems at least somewhat likely they'll all pitch out of the bullpen, even though they started in Indy. The Pirates already have Gerrit Cole set to return this week, so it seems unlikely there will be many opportunities to start, unless they want to shake things up. The only one of Hutchison, Glasnow and Williams who has much of a case to start the rest of the year is Glasnow anyway.
Hutchison's promotion, by the way, will surely be of interest to Pirates fans, since he was the Bucs' sole return in the Liriano/McGuire/Ramirez trade. He hasn't done well in Indianapolis since the deal, posting a 4.50 ERA with 7.0 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9 there.
