MLB Pipeline, which is basically Jonathan Mayo and Jim Callis, announced their top 100 prospects tonight and the Pirates had five players on the list. They were:
9. Tyler Glasnow
10. Austin Meadows
27. Josh Bell
48. Mitch Keller
59. Kevin Newman
This follows Keith Law’s top 100, which included six Pirates:
9. Austin Meadows
14. Josh Bell
16. Mitch Keller
25. Tyler Glasnow
33. Kevin Newman
74. Ke’Bryan Hayes
MLB Pipeline earlier had Hayes 9th among third basemen, so he probably didn’t miss by a lot.
Of course, none of this means much until these guys come through at the major league level, but it’s more corroboration for what we already knew: The Pirates have a bunch of guys who at least have the potential to be difference-makers at the major league level. Not only that, but most of them — especially when you include Jameson Taillon, who’s not eligible for these lists — are ready, or close to ready, for the majors. The only ones who aren’t are Hayes and Keller, and Keller may not be all that far away.
