Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports tweeted that Pirates third-base coach Joey Cora will stay with the team and not join his brother Alex Cora with the Boston Red Sox, as had been speculated.
Joey Cora will be staying in Pittsburgh as coach, not joining his brother's staff in boston
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) October 28, 2017
Alex Cora, still serving as the Astros bench coach, was recently named the next manager of the Red Sox. Boston has already had some staff turnover, and it’s not yet clear what Alex Cora looks to do in that regard, given that he’s still coaching in the World Series.
Heyman didn’t expand beyond his one-sentence tweet, but it appears Joey Cora will be back with the Pirates. Joey Cora, like most third-base coaches, had his ups and downs in his first season in that role in Pittsburgh after managing Altoona, the Pirates’ Double-A affiliate, in 2016.
