The Pirates’ recently released and ultra-photogenic reliever Jared Hughes may not be unemployed for long. Apparently, he’s close to a deal with the Brewers. The report doesn’t say, but this may be a major league deal, as the Brewers’ active roster currently stands at 24. They had two pitchers competing for their last bullpen spot — former Pirate Rob Scahill and the now-very-unhappy Tyler Cravy — but both lost. This obviously suggests the Brewers were close to acquiring somebody from outside the organization. It’s nice to see Hughes find a job so quickly, because he seems like a very good guy, but I cringe every time an ex-Pirate ends up in the NL Central.
