— Steven Brault had his best start of the season, but Indianapolis (4-11) couldn’t get any offense going and lost, 1-0, to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Brault gave up a run on five hits in six innings. He walked one and fanned nine, throwing 65 of 100 pitches for strikes. The Indians, however, managed only six hits and whiffed 11 times.

— Altoona (9-5) dropped a 3-2 decision to Akron. Tanner Anderson pitched well until the sixth inning, when he loaded the bases on a hit and two walks. Miguel Rosario came on with two out and forced in two runs with a walk and a hit batsman. Anderson gave up three runs in five and two-thirds on four hits and four walks, with three strikeouts. The Curve hitters went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Chase Simpson had a double and his first HR in four ABs.

— Bradenton (9-7) could have used a mercy rule. Gage Hinsz lasted only an inning and a third, giving up six earned runs. Things didn’t improve from there, as Sam Street and Bret Helton both got hammered, and infielder Trace Tam Sing gave up four runs in the ninth. The final tally was 18-2, Jupiter. Kevin Krause went 2-3 with a pair of doubles. He was playing for the second time in six days even though he leads the team in OPS by a wide margin, not counting Jordan George, who’s hurt.

— West Virginia (7-9) wasted a good effort from Matt Anderson and lost to Lakewood, 1-0. Anderson walked four, but allowed only two hits and fanned five over five shutout innings. Eduardo Vera followed with four good innings, but gave up a solo HR in the ninth. Vera allowed just two hits, walked none and struck out five. The Power had six hits, with Ty Moore going 2-4 with a double.
