Cannonballs coming: Three hits for Kevin Newman

— Indianapolis (2-0) came from behind on a three-run HR by Max Moroff, his second HR, in the seventh inning for a 5-4 win over Toledo. Drew Hutchison continued to cast doubt on the meaningfulness of K:BB rates, allowing four runs on seven hits over five and a third innings. He walked two and struck out five. Dovydas Neverauskas got the save with two scoreless innings. He allowed a hit and a walk, and fanned none. The Indians prevailed despite a dozen strikeouts.

— Altoona (1-0) won its opener, 5-3, over Harrisburg. Alex McRae survived seven hits and a walk over five innings, allowing only one run and fanning nine. Kevin Newman went 3-5 with a double and a nice play on a deflected grounder. Pablo Reyes, playing center, was 2-5 with a double and Edwin Espinal 2-2 with two walks. Tate Scioneaux made his AA debut with two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and fanning two. The Curve were assisted by five Harrisburg errors.

— Bradenton (2-0) had its offense in gear again, beating Charlotte, 9-3. Jordan George (pictured) went 3-4 with four RBIs, three of them on a bases-loaded single. The Marauders had a dozen hits and six walks. Starter Pedro Vasquez, who came in the Arquimedes Caminero trade, gave up one run in four innings. He gave up four hits and a walk, and fanned four.

— West Virginia (0-2) dropped a doubleheader to Rome. In the first game, the Power managed only one hit, a double by Albert Baur, and sent just one more than the minimum number of hitters to the plate. The hitters wasted a strong game by James Marvel, who threw five shutout innings, allowing four hits and a walk, and striking out six.
