Cannonballs coming: Cole Tucker runs wild

Very light action today, with Indianapolis and West Virginia both off, and Altoona rained out.

One news item: Last year’s 13th round draft pick, right-hander John Pomeroy, had Tommy John surgery (sub. req’d). Pomeroy was a lottery-type pick, a big guy with mid- to upper-90s velocity who has serious control problems. It would have been interesting to see what the Pirates could do with him, but we’ll have to wait a year for that.

— Bradenton (14-11) beat St. Lucie, 8-3. Cole Tucker (pictured) went 2-3 with two walks and four stolen bases. That gives Tucker 17 on the year, easily the most in the minors, in 20 tries. Taylor Hearn covered the three true outcomes in the first three opposing batters, starting off with a strikeout, walk and HR. He got through six innings with no more runs, although he had control problems, throwing just 57 of 99 pitches for strikes. He allowed just two hits, walked four and fanned eight. Christian Kelley went 2-4.

Ke’Bryan Hayes: 1-4, BB
Will Craig: 1-4
Logan Hill: 1-4, 2B
Jacob Brentz: IP, K
