The Pirates have activated David Freese and Adam Frazier from the disabled list. In corresponding moves they optioned Max Moroff and Chris Bostick to triple-A Indianapolis.
This is a huge boost to a struggling Pirates offense, against which opposing pitchers have taken no-hitters deep into games twice this week. The Bucs have scored nine runs over their current five-game losing streak.
Freese was the Pirates' best hitter, with a .321/.418/.536 line when he went down in late April with a hamstring injury. Frazier's production wasn't that far behind Freese's. The opening of at-bats for Frazier was a vending-machine-ring-style silver-colored plastic lining to the Starling Marte suspension, after which Frazier quickly got hurt.
Freese will jump straight in to Friday's starting lineup without a rehab stint. Frazier, who had been rehabbing with Indianapolis, is sitting against lefty Patrick Corbin.
