Edgar Santana, A.J. Schugel to be called up to Pirates

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates-Media Day Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Edgar Santana and A.J. Schugel are set to be promoted to the major leagues. Pirates Bullpen reported the moves on Twitter, and Pirates Prospects (sub) confirmed them.

Santana’s agency appears to have confirmed his promotion as well.

The moves are not yet official, so no corresponding moves have been announced. Dovydas Neverauskas, who came up Thursday and pitched in both games since, seems to be in a position to go back down to triple-a Indianapolis. There’s a lot more that would go into a Tyler Glasnow demotion, but that’s a possibility as well.

Santana, 25, emerged in recent years as a late-blooming prospect. With Indianapolis this season he’s posted a 1.93 ERA, 8.54 strikeouts per nine innings and 1.93 walks per nine.

Schugel was mostly solid in 36 appearances for the Pirates in 2016. His strikeouts, walks and groundballs have ticket up in triple-a this year.

UPDATE: It's Glasnow and Neverauskas going down. (https://twitter.com/pirates/status/873581313495883776) And Jameson Taillon will rejoin the rotation, returning from surgery for testicular cancer to start Monday. (https://twitter.com/stephenjnesbitt/status/873582060354637828)
