The Pirates have reinstated Francisco Cervelli from the seven-day concussion disabled list and optioned A.J. Schugel to triple-a Indianapolis. Cervelli is starting and batting seventh in the Pirates’ lineup Wednesday night.
The moves leave the Pirates with three catchers on the active roster: Cervelli, Elias Diaz and Jacob Stallings.
— Earlier Wednesday the Pirates announced they had sent right-handed pitcher Matt Frawley to the Yankees to complete the trade that sent Johnny Barbato to the Pirates in April.
A 17th-round pick in 2016, Frawley has posted a 1.62 ERA in 33 1-3 innings of relief with low-a West Virginia this season.
— The Brewers have designated for assignment reliever Neftali Feliz.
Feliz signed with Milwaukee for one year and $5.4 million after posting a solid 2016 in the Pirates bullpen. He opened 2017 as the Brewers’ closer, but has since struggled, walking 5.00 batters per nine innings with a 6.00 ERA.
