Pirates Prospects is reporting (sub. req’d) that the Pirates have agreed to terms with their 17th round pick in the MLB draft, outfielder Mason Martin. The official signing is not expected to take place until early next week. A prep player from Washington state, Martin ranked 312th on Baseball America’s list of the top 500 draft prospects. His big asset is power and he has some swing and miss issues. Martin played mainly first in high school, but the Pirates announced him as a right fielder. Martin is the third prep outfielder the Pirates have signed from this draft. That will leave a crowded outfield situation in the GCL, where the Pirates also have Cal Mitchell, Conner Uselton, Lolo Sanchez and Jeremias Portorreal.
