The Pirates have placed Francisco Cervelli on the seven-day concussion disabled list. In a corresponding move, they selected catcher Jacob Stallings from triple-a Indianapolis.
Cervelli took a foul tip to the mask during the ninth inning of Tuesday night’s loss and left the game.
Stallings has hit .259 (22-for-85) with a .323 on-base percentage and .365 slugging percentage this year for Indianapolis. He went 6-for-15 (.400) in five games with the Pirates last year. Elias Diaz, whom Stallings has backed up at multiple levels, stands to get most of the playing time in the next week.
