The Chicago White Sox have claimed infielder Alen Hanson off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Jon Morosi of MLB Network and Fox Sports reports.
Once a promising prospect, the 24-year-old Hanson broke camp with the Pirates this spring mainly due to his lack of options. He posted a .193/.220/.263 slash line this season, his best use mainly being as a pinch runner.
The White Sox are in a position to collect post-hype guys like Hanson — they claimed a similarly out-of-favor Pirates prospect over the winter in Willy Garcia.
