Cannonballs coming: Starling Marte starts rehab, Nick Kingham bounces back

The GCL and DSL Pirates don’t play on Sundays.

— Nick Kingham recovered from a series of bad starts, but Indianapolis (46-36) couldn’t get any offense against sort-of former Pirate Lisalverto Bonilla in a 1-0 loss to Louisville. Kingham gave up a run on five hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out four. Indy had only three hits. Jordan Luplow went 1-4.

— Altoona (40-39) lost its seventh straight, 7-4, to Erie. Cody Dickson had another rough start, giving up six runs on five hits, three of them longballs, and four walks in four innings. Logan Hill’s second game in AA went well, as he went 2-4 with a walk, a double and his first AA HR.

— Bradenton’s (43-33) game against Florida was suspended in the sixth inning with the score 1-1. Taylor Hearn threw five shutout innings before the leadoff hitter in the sixth went deep, at which point the rains came. Hearn allowed just two hits total, walked two and fanned seven. Starling Marte began his rehab, going 0-3 with a strikeout. Cole Tucker was 2-3 with a double and two steals, giving him 30 of the latter on the year.

— West Virginia (36-41) won a 10-3 blowout from Hickory. Albert Baur hit his fourth HR and Kevin Mahala hit his second. Eduardo Vera gave up one run on six hits in six innings. He walked none and struck out three.

Trae Arbet: 3-4

— Morgantown (8-5) beat Williamsport, 4-2. Sergio Cubilete gave up a run over five innings on three hits and three walks. He fanned four. Jared Oliva, Bligh Madris and Yoel Gonzalez all went 2-4. Madris had a triple and Gonzalez two doubles.

— Bristol (3-8) got a good start from Domingo Robles, but the Pirates aren’t playing basket-case Princeton any more and couldn’t get any offense in a 2-0 loss to Bluefield. Robles gave up a run in six innings. He allowed three hits and a walk, and struck out one. Bristol managed eight hits, but went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
