Cannonballs coming: Strong pitching from Glasnow, Keller and McRae

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Mets Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

— Tyler Glasnow allowed one run over seven innings as Indianapolis (57-45) beat Rochester, 5-2. Glasnow had some control issues early, but ended up walking three and allowing just four hits. He fanned seven and needed 98 pitches. The only run he allowed was on a HR by Matt Hague. The Indians had only six hits.

— Altoona (52-48) got eight outstanding innings from Alex McRae in a 2-1 win over Reading. McRae gave up the one run on four hits. He walked none and fanned eight. Not only that, he scored both Altoona runs and went 1-3. The Curve got nine hits from nine different players.

— Mitch Keller gave up two runs over seven innings as Bradenton (57-41) beat St. Lucie, 4-2. Keller allowed five hits, walked nobody and struck out six. The Marauders got all their runs in the third inning, with Jordan George and Kevin Krause each getting key doubles.

— West Virginia (46-51) beat Lexington, 7-3. Clark Eagan was 3-4 with his seventh HR and four RBIs. In his last four games, Eagan is 12-for-16 with three HRs and nine RBIs. Eduardo Vera gave up two runs over five innings on four hits and a walk. He struck out five. Pasquale Mazzoccoli threw two scoreless innings, striking out one. He has yet to allow a run in 16.1 IP divided between the two West Virginia teams.

Garrett Brown: 2-4 (batting .344)

— Morgantown (22-12) hammered Batavia, 14-4. Everybody in the Black Bears’ lineup, including one substitute, had at least one hit. Julio De La Cruz was 3-5 with his first HR and three RBIs, Jared Oliva was 2-5 with a triple and four runs, and Deon Stafford was 2-4 with four RBIs. Brandon Waddell made his second rehab start, going five shutout innings. He gave up just one hit and two walks, and fanned seven.

Tristan Gray: 2-5

— Bristol (8-25) lost its seventh in a row and eleventh out of its last twelve by a 2-0 count against Bluefield. Braeden Ogle started and last just an inning, for unknown reasons. He retired the side in order, two on strikeouts. The Pirates had just four hits and fanned 14 times.

UPDATE: Ogle was slated to throw just an inning. Nothing is wrong (sub. req’d).

— Mason Martin hit his seventh HR, but not much else went right for the GCL Pirates (10-15) in an 11-3 loss to the Yankees West. Overall, Martin was 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt. Even though Martin’s played in fewer than half the Pirates’ games, he has three more HRs than any other player in the league and three more than two entire teams. Steven Jennings allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in three innings. He didn’t strike out anybody.

— The DSL Pirates (24-20) lost to the Cubs1, 7-2. Starter Noe Toribio threw six shutout innings, allowing just one hit along with three walks. He struck out four. Sherten Apostel was 1-2 with a double.
