Pirates option Steve Brault to AAA

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at San Francisco Giants Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

According to the team’s transactions page, the Pirates have optioned left-handed pitcher Steve Brault to Indianapolis. Brault came up five days ago and appeared in two games. He allowed two runs on four hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out two.

This move is evidently in preparation for the Pirates calling up Jordan Luplow tomorrow. The Pirates are off today and Luplow is not in the Indianapolis lineup tonight.

UPDATE: The Pirates also are promoting Edwin Espinal to Indianapolis (sub. req’d). Espinal is currently batting 283/322/474 with 15 HRs. The longballs are more than twice his previous season high. Espinal is eligible for the Rule 5 draft after the season. Jordan George, currently batting 302/399/488, will move up from Bradenton to replace Espinal.
