Early gamethread: Trevor Williams aims to extend strong stretch

MLB: Cincinnati Reds at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pirates will go for their third straight win in Toronto with Trevor Williams on the mound. The Blue Jays will send out right-hander Chris Rowley for his major league debut. Rowley has an interesting background. He went to West Point and wasn’t selected in the baseball draft. The Blue Jays signed him as a free agent in 2013 and he pitched in rookie ball, but his military commitments kept him from playing in 2014-15. He rejoined the Jays’ organization in 2016 and made it to AAA partway through this year. In AAA he had a 2.82 ERA and 1.22 WHIP, with a 6.8 K/9, in ten games, six of them starts.

Game time is 1:07 PM ET.
