Cannonballs coming: Austin Meadows hurt again

New, 41 comments

Bradenton remained in Harvey limbo. The GCL Pirates don’t play on Sundays.

— Tyler Glasnow had a good start but Indianapolis (74-59) lost to Columbus, 3-2. Glasnow allowed three hits and two walks, while striking out nine, in six innings. He gave up three runs, two earned, and threw 59 of 91 pitches for strikes. Edgar Santana followed with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and fanning four. The Indians had ten hits and four walks, but hit into three double plays and had two runners caught stealing. Erich Weiss was 2-3 with a double, a walk and his sixth HR. Austin Meadows left the game halfway through with a recurrence of his oblique injury. It’s not considered serious, but he missed five games previously and it sounds like he may miss more (sub. req’d) this time.

Kevin Newman: 1-4, BB
Chris Bostick: 2-3
Jordan Luplow: 0-3, BB

— Altoona (70-62) lost to Bowie, 7-3. Mitch Keller pitched well for five innings. He left with two outs in the sixth and the bases loaded, and a 2-1 lead. Jake Brentz came in and promptly surrendered a grand slam. Keller was charged with four runs on four hits and a walk. He fanned seven. Cole Tucker continued to come alive, going 2-3 with a double, a triple and a walk. In his last eight games, he’s 13-for-33 (.394).

Jerrick Suiter: 1-4
Jin-De Jhang: 2-4

— West Virginia (64-65) beat Hagerstown, 3-2, on a walkoff, two-run double by Kevin Mahala with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Luis Escobar gave up just an unearned run in seven innings. He allowed only two hits, walked two and fanned seven. The Power had only six hits, two by Albert Baur.

Adrian Valerio: 0-3
Pasquale Mazzoccoli: 2 IP, H, 3 K

— Morgantown (35-30) lost to Mahoning Valley, 5-2. The Black Bears took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the eighth, but their struggling bullpen coughed up a four-run inning. Starter Gavin Wallace allowed one run on five hits in five and two-thirds innings. He walked none and struck out one. Morgantown had only three hits in the game.

Bligh Madris: 0-3
Dylan Busby: 0-4

— Bristol (15-47) scored nine runs in the 7th and 8th innings to run away from Kingsport, 13-5. The Pirates had 11 hits and nine walks, and still managed to strike out 14 times. Edison Lantigua was 3-4 with a double, a triple, a walk and three runs. Matt Diorio was 3-5 with a double and four RBIs. Johan De Jesus walked three times and scored three runs. Max Kranick (pictured) pitched well again in his second Bristol start, allowing one run on five hits and a walk in five and two-thirds innings. He struck out five.

Jason Delay: 1-4, 2B
Jacob Taylor: 2 IP, 2 BB, 3 K
