They acquired Kontos off waivers from the Giants, for whom he’d done a solid job this year. In 50 games he has a 3.83 ERA, 3.55 xFIP, 9.6 K/9 and 1.34 WHIP. The waiver transaction took place on Saturday, but Kontos took two days to report.
Neverauskas has appeared in six games for the Pirates this year, posting an ERA of 3.00 and WHIP of 1.22 in nine innings. He’s had three different stints in the majors. In the most recent one, he threw four scoreless innings in three games, striking out five. Two of those innings came yesterday, earning him the win.
