Francisco Cervelli done for the season

In a thoroughly unsurprising development, Clint Hurdle has acknowledged that Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli won’t return this season.

In case you didn’t know, Cervelli has had some injuries this year. Just to recap . . . He suffered a foot injury in spring training that’s bothered him all year. He missed time with that problem off and on in May. He missed some time due to illness in early June. He went out a few days after that with a concussion. A few days after he came back he was out with an illness that required a “battery of tests.” A couple days later he suffered another concussion. In early August he missed a game with a groin injury. In mid-month he went on the DL due to lingering pain in his wrist from his hamate surgery a year earlier. In his first game after returning, he suffered a quad injury and went back on the DL. That one has ended his season. Cervelli finishes the season with a 249/342/370 batting line in 81 games.
