Game Thread: Tyler Glasnow, Steven Brault to face unheralded rookie

Pirates V Phillies
Curtis Wilkerson, 1991 Pittsburgh Pirate

Tonight’s pitching setup has plenty to look for. Tyler Glasnow is set to make his second September appearance in tonight’s 7:05 game, this time in relief of Steven Brault, who last time out had an excellent one-hit, six-inning start in Milwaukee last Monday. That also happens to be the last time the Pirates won.

The Brewers, fighting to get into the playoffs, will oppose Brault with Curtis Aaron Wilkerson, a 28-year-old righty making his first Major League start after spending all season in Double-A, minus one inning of relief with the big club. Wilkerson has NAIA pitcher, Tommy John surgery recipient, grocery stocker and independent-ball player all on his résumé. Here’s a helpful report from our pals at Brew Crew Ball.

At least it’s not like a guy named Wilkerson has had an unexpectedly big performance in a key September game before.
