The Pirates have placed Josh Harrison on the 10-day disabled list, with a broken bone in his left hand, and recalled Chris Bostick from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Harrison was hit in the hand by a pitch in the fifth inning of Saturday night’s game. With the Pirates out of the NL Central race, it appears it’s OK for them to immediately DL a guy and not play shorthanded for several days beforehand.
The versatile Bostick, 24, has hit .294/.362/.418 with seven home runs and 33 doubles with Indianapolis this season, a performance that would seem to warrant more than three appearances in Major League games this season.
Bostick was acquired from the Nationals last offseason in exchange for minor-league catcher Taylor Gushue. Mainly a second baseman previously, Bostick has also had significant time in the corner outfield in Triple-A this season.
