The Pirates probably could have picked a better time for this. Bill Brink is reporting that they’ve agreed on a four-year contract extension with manager Clint Hurdle. This puts Hurdle under contract through 2021. The team already had an option for 2018, but this apparently supplants that.
In seven years with the Pirates, Hurdle, counting today, has a 575-534 record, good for a winning percentage of .518. He won NL Manager of the Year in 2013. He came in sixth in the voting in 2011, second in 2014 and fourth in 2015.
There’s no indication about the future of general manager Neal Huntington. Like Hurdle, he came into the season at the end of his contract, with a team option for 2018.
