The Pirates have activated George Kontos from the disabled list.
Pirates reinstate George Kontos from the DL.
— Bill Brink (@BrinkPG) September 7, 2017
Kontos went on the DL on August 22 with a right groin strain.
The Pirates obtained Kontos, rather surprisingly, for nothing via a waiver claim from the Giants a week after the trade deadline. He got off to a good start with them, allowing just two hits, one walk and one run in his first five innings, while striking out seven. He should be a candidate to take over the 8th inning role formerly held by $600,000 Juan Nicasio. The Pirates control his rights through 2019.
