Here’s something the people of Pittsburgh might be interested in.
Jeff Sullivan at FanGraphs compiled some pretty neat team ownership ratings, through polling at the site. Bob Nutting and the Pirates are 27th in approval, fourth from the worst in Major League Baseball.
While that’s about four spots too high for a lot of Pirates fans currently, the teams that follow — the Orioles, Mets and Marlins — make sense, too. Perhaps it’s surprising to see the Pirates ahead of the Orioles, though the Marlins are probably rightfully in the basement.
While Nutting has never been particularly popular, his ratings are the biggest shift from when FanGraphs last ran such a poll, in the halcyon days of early 2016, with the Pirates coming off three straight postseason appearances.
So, congratulations, Pirates fans. You’re on the steepest roller coaster of baseball fandom.
