Pirates’ lefty Nik Turley has been suspended 80 games due to a positive test for a performance-enhancing substance:
Per MLB: Pirates LHP Nik Turley received an 80-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Ipamorelin, a performance-enhancing substance. Suspension begins at the start of the season.— Adam Berry (@adamdberry) January 27, 2018
The Pirates claimed Turley off waivers from Minnesota back in November. He’s a 28-year-old lefty with good velocity who moved to the bullpen in 2016 and had a good year in AAA in 2017, with a 10.5 K/9. I’m not sure what his role would have been, as he’s on the 40-man roster but has no options left.
Turley is the second Pirate reliever to receive a suspension recently. Montana DuRapau was suspended 50 games for a second positive test for a drug of abuse.
