The Mets are “continuing dialogue” with the Pirates regarding a possible trade of Josh Harrison, Mike Puma of the New York Post tweets.
Mets are continuing dialogue with Pirates about Josh Harrison, but still believe a free agent addition is more likely. And that may not happen until the bigger names are off the board.
— Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) January 29, 2018
As Puma states, it seems the Mets prefer a free agent signing to an addition by trade, and it figures it may take a while for New York to get close to a deal, given the pace at which the offseason free-agent market has gone.
Harrison, of course, has said he’d prefer to be traded if the Pirates don’t expect to contend in the next couple years. The Pirates, meanwhile, have indicated (non-verbally, at least) they don’t expect to set the world on fire in that time frame.
The Brewers, Blue Jays and Yankees have also been reported to be interested in acquiring Harrison.
