Another team lacking in high-level prospects has expressed interest in trading for Andrew McCutchen. This time it’s the New York Mets, Ken Rosenthal tweets.
#Mets, #Pirates have discussed McCutchen, just as they did last off-season, sources tell The Athletic. No deal close; NYM weighing variety of moves, and FAs appear more realistic than trades given lack of depth in system. McCutchen set to earn $14.75M in final year of deal.

As Rosenthal notes, a deal is not close.
The Mets asked about McCutchen last winter, in something that escaped my memory entirely. Their system isn’t thrilling, but it isn’t necessarily going to take a thrilling return to get a Cutch for a year, at this point.
While every team would make sense, in one way or another, for Gerrit Cole, the list of potential trade partners for McCutchen isn’t quite as long. It’s at least good to know the Giants aren’t the only option, from the limited details we’ve heard so far.
