Joe Musgrove undergoes abdominal surgery

In what I’m sure is a surprise to nobody, Joe Musgrove has undergone surgery to repair his abdominal wall. He was shut down in mid-September in hopes of resting the injury, but evidently that wasn’t enough. He’s “expected to be ‘on or close to a regular schedule’ for the coming spring.” Musgrove made only 19 starts in his first season with the Pirates due to shoulder trouble, a finger infection and the abdominal problem. The latter problem may have affected him throughout the second half of the season.
