Already holding the 18th and 37th overall slots in the 2019 MLB Draft, the Pirates have gained the No. 73 pick in Competitive Balance Round B. MLB announced the Competitive Balance Round picks on Monday. The full draft order can be found here.

The No. 37 pick is compensation for the Pirates not signing Gunnar Hoglund, who was picked in Competitive Balance Round A last year. Because the Pirates were assigned a Round A pick in 2018, their new Competitive Balance pick for 2019 is in Round B.

As Pirates Prospects points out in its roundup, the Pirates will have five picks in the draft’s top 100. Some of these slots may move slightly due to free-agent compensation, but not as significantly as under previous setups.
